Baby monitors & safety
A monitor does not make your baby safer on its own. It makes you able to put them down and leave the room, which is its own kind of relief. This collection has the two kinds worth considering, camera monitors that show you the crib and wearable monitors that track heart rate and oxygen.
Worth being straight about: no home monitor is proven to reduce the risk of SIDS, and the American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend them for that purpose. Buy one because it helps you rest, not because you are treating it as a medical device. The things that actually make sleep safer have not changed. Back to sleep, a firm flat mattress, and nothing else in the crib.
