Prime Big Deal Days is October 6–7

Amazon's fall sale runs for 48 hours on October 6 and 7, 2026, and the deals are for Prime members only. If you are not a member, you can start a free 30-day Prime trial (if you are eligible) before the sale and shop the member prices.

The short answer

For most expecting and new parents, Amazon Prime earns its cost in the first year. The free Baby Registry Welcome Box requires Prime (a free trial counts), Prime-only sales like this week's are when the big baby gear gets discounted, and fast free shipping matters more than it used to when you are out of diapers at 9pm. If you only need it for a short stretch, the free 30-day trial is a reasonable way to find out.

What Prime actually does for new parents

The Welcome Box is the clearest reason. Amazon's Baby Registry Welcome Box is free for Prime members once the registry has at least 10 unique items and more than $10 has been bought from it, by you or anyone else. Amazon describes it as a mix of sample and full-size surprises for parents and baby.

Two other registry perks are worth knowing, and Amazon's registry page does not list Prime as a requirement for either. The 15% completion discount (up to $300 in savings) opens once your registry has been active for 14 days, from 60 days before your due date to 90 days after. That window is when the big items, a stroller, a car seat, a travel crib, tend to get bought. And eligible gifts bought from your registry can be returned for up to 365 days.

Shipping is the everyday reason. Wipes, nursing pads, breast pump parts and sitz bath soaks are things you run out of at inconvenient moments. Free fast shipping on them is the benefit you are likely to use most once the baby is here.

Member-only sales are the occasional reason. Prime Day in summer and Prime Big Deal Days in October are two of the biggest sale events for baby gear and nursery items, and both are Prime-only.

What it costs

  • Standard Prime: $14.99 a month or $139 a year, after a free 30-day trial if you are eligible.
  • Prime for Young Adults: for ages 18–24 and higher-education students. A six-month free trial, then $7.49 a month or $69 a year.
  • Prime Access: for people who receive qualifying government assistance. A free 30-day trial, then $6.99 a month.

If you start a trial and decide it is not for you, you can cancel from your Amazon account before the trial ends.

A note before you shop a sale

A deal is only a deal if it is the right product. For anything your baby sleeps in or rides in, a crib, bassinet, travel crib or car seat, check the model against the recall list at CPSC.gov before you buy, and skip add-on mattresses for play yards that did not come with them. Never buy a used car seat on a discount.

FAQs

Do I need Prime to get the Amazon Baby Registry Welcome Box?

Yes. The Welcome Box is a Prime member benefit, and a free Prime trial counts. You also need at least 10 unique items on your registry and more than $10 bought from it, by you or by anyone else.

Can I shop Prime Big Deal Days on a free trial?

Yes. Trial members get the same member pricing as paid members. Start the trial before or during the October 6–7 sale.

Is Prime worth it if I only need it around the birth?

Often, yes. The Welcome Box and the months of heavy diaper-and-wipes ordering both fall around your due date. A trial, or a few months of monthly membership timed to that window, captures most of the value without a full year. Amazon does not list Prime as a requirement for the registry completion discount.

Is there a cheaper version of Prime?

Two. Prime for Young Adults is for ages 18–24 and students and starts with a six-month free trial. Prime Access is a lower monthly price for people who receive qualifying government assistance.
