The Newton Compact is a lightweight travel crib and play yard, and what sets it apart is the mattress. Newton's Wovenaire core is mostly air and can be washed all the way through, not just the cover. About the "breathable" mattress

Newton says its breathable mattress helps reduce the risk of suffocation. It is genuinely breathable, but no research has shown that breathable mattresses lower the risk of SIDS. Treat it as a comfort and cleaning feature, and follow the same safe sleep rules you would with any crib.

Safe sleep in any travel crib

Use only the mattress it came with and the included sheet, or a fitted sheet made for this crib. Don't add a mattress, topper or pad. The CPSC has issued repeated warnings about add-on play yard mattresses sold online, because they can create gaps a baby can get trapped in. Keep the crib bare, put your baby down on their back every time, and zip the side door fully closed.
